On Cinema..
Cinema is a language. Cinema is not storytelling. With cinema, the story is what the audience tells themselves, not the other way around. With Dog Star Man, Brakhage embeds his cinematic language with all of the imagery and ingredients necessary for us as the audience to tell ourselves the story behind Dog Star Man’s cinema, but never once in the film is that story told to us. We are shown everything we need to see in order to make sense of the dreamscape.
