rAGING BULL (1980)
"Give me a stage where this bull here can rage." Scorsese's opening lines to, far and away, his best film give us a hint at the Jake LaMotta we're about to see, a man who wants nothing more than an arena, to be displayed in front of crowds of people so that he can let loose, allow all of his inner animal to be unleashed, and rage. Deniro's LaMotta is a man who doesn't understand his time and place, he doesn't seem to grasp his society, Scorsese's final quote from leaves us with the summation; who can say the worth of a man? All we can say is how he's affected us.
